Hakone

Hakone is a popular getaway for urbanites from Tokyo and Yokohama. It is most famous as a hot spring (onsen) resort with numerous traditional Japanese guesthouses known as ryokan. The Hakone area also offers some beautiful scenery: depending on the weather, it is possible to see Mt. Fuji from Lake Ashinoko or from one of the surrounding mountains. Points of interest also include the Owakudani valley, an area with volcanic activity where you can try black eggs.
