概要
Maruyama Okyo was famously known for his artwork that depicted the real life versions of a wide array of different objects in Kyoto during the 18th century. These objects included flowers, birds, and animals. His paintings drew in a lot of attention which aided him in creating the Maruyama school. Maruyama was a role model and mentor to many Japanese-style artists. When Goshun, another Japanese artist wanted to become a mentor of Maruyama, Maruyama decided to invite him in as a fellow artist to study together. After Maruyama passed, Goshun went on to open the Shijo school, which was inspired by the techniques of Maruyama and Buson, who he also studied with. The exhibition at the university art museum, Tokyo University of the Arts, will be running two different sessions. The main features will be artworks from Maruyama and Goshun and will also include artwork from other Japanese-style artists such as. This exhibition also covers the history and processes of the Maruyama-Shijo school, giving viewers the opportunity to get an authentic experience of the Kyoto art world. © PIA Corporation.
