Things to know

The Ainokura Gassho-zukuri Village is famously known for its 23 gassho-zukuri houses pocketed throughout lush mountain scenery. These houses have been standing since the Edo period, and the village has also been designated as a World Heritage site. There are various light-ups throughout the year, each with its own theme pertaining to the season. Some of these themes include “lingering snow,” “night cooling,” and “water reflection.” There is also a special lighting ceremony, and, depending on the time of year, live folk song performances and snow barrier set up events. At these light-up events, visitors will have plenty of things to keep them occupied all while viewing the nighttime scenery of a traditional Japanese village.
