概要
The Wind Chime Festival is a popular summer event held at Shojuin Temple near Uji. During the event period, wind chimes are set up throughout the temple, creating a unique soundscape. Wind chimes were traditionally used at Buddhist temples in Japan in the belief that they could help ward off evil and danger. While this meaning still exists today, the wind chimes at Shojuin Temple have a strong aesthetic orientation. The temple is known for its kawaii aesthetic, and the wind chimes contribute to this impression. They were collected from all 47 prefectures of Japan and feature different shapes and designs, creating a colorful and cheerful scene. In summer, the area around Shojuin Temple is considerably cooler than the hot Kyoto, and the wind chimes are said to help visitors experience a refreshing breeze with all their five senses. |
