The Bunshokan in Yamagata is a beautiful prefectural office and assembly building turned into a museum. Built in English Neo-Renaissance style, the brick building has a distinctly foreign look to it while retaining its show of age. Classified by the government as a important cultural property, its condition remains very well preserved, especially the Grand Meeting Hall, where the original marble pillars remain in place. Inside the building there are some exhibitions about the history and culture of Yamagata Prefecture.
