Eiheiji Temple of Fukui Prefecture was founded in 1244 for spiritual practice in the Zen tradition. Many monks still practice meditation here even today, waking early in the morning and cultivating their minds and bodies through various practices such as temple work, zazen seated meditation, and walking meditation. There are also workshops during which visitors to the temple are allowed to observe the monks during their practices.
The temple was also given two stars in the 2015 Michelin Guide.
