A botanical garden affiliated with the Yomiuri Land amusement park, Hana-Biyori aims to create a space where people can coexist peacefully with nature. Within the grounds is the Hana-Biyori Hall, mainly an indoor garden with flowers blooming year-round. Not just nature, though; the hall also features a digital art production that utilizes projection mapping and flowers to create stunning visual artwork. Also found within the building is one of Japan's largest collections of floral chandeliers: over 300 pots of a variety of flowers including fuchsias, geraniums, and petunias are suspended from the ceiling, allowing visitors to bask in colorful plants from all sides. For anyone who fancies a break, also located inside the hall is Japan's first botanical garden Starbucks, where visitors can relax and enjoy a hot drink while surrounded by flowers and other greenery.
Surrounding the Hana-Biyori Hall is the Alley of Colors, which is made up of a number of different flowerbeds featuring lilies, roses, and cherry and plum blossoms. A short walk along a bubbling stream will lead visitors to the Sky-Viewing Hill, an observatory with a wide view of the city. On the other side of the grounds is the Sacred Forest, known for its spider lilies and autumn maple foliage, but also home to several treasures, including the Moss Garden, the Sacred Pond, and the Sacred Gate, said to be originally from the Kyoto Imperial Palace. In fact, this Japanese-style garden also features National Important Cultural Properties the Statue of Myoken Bodhisattva and the Statue of Sacred Avalokitesvara, as well as the Gautama Buddha Pagoda, which invokes a serene spiritual presence.
Hana-Biyori is also home to a number of Asian small-clawed otters, and visitors can take part in feeding them for a small fee. In addition to the otters, there are also fish tanks filled with water plants and fish of around 50 different species native to the Okinawan seas, as well as daily workshops at which participants can make moss terrariums and flower arrangements using flowers from the gardens just outside.
