Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village is an open air museum located in the World Heritage Hida region of Takayama city in Gifu prefecture. This beautiful little picturesque village contains over 30 traditional buildings built during the Edo period (1600-1867) but were moved from their original locations to create the museum in 1971. Reassembled around a lake called Goami Lake and surrounded by the quaint wooded countryside of Hida, you can explore the village and it's many huts and houses and in particular it's Gasshozukuri farmhouses with their distinctive thatched roofs. You can also see demonstrations of local art&craft works, which is another unique look at Japanese cultural arts.
