The Ichijodani Asakura Clan Historic Ruins are an interesting historical spot. It is a castle town in the historic Echizen province that was ruled by the Asakura clan during the warring states period (15th-16th century). Samurai lodging, temples, townhouses, workshops and streets were almost perfectly intact when they were excavated by archeologists. Their recognized historical importance is on par with Kyoto’s Kinkaku-ji Temple and Hiroshima’s Itsukushima Shrine.
