Lost and destroyed in the tragic event of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Itsuura Rokkakudo has been well restored and reopened to the public on April 28, 2012. The Rokkakudo (lit. a hexagon pavilion) also used to be part of the residence of Okura Tenshin, who has contributed greatly to the development of Japan’s modern art. The red hexagon design is actually Tenshin’s own creation.
