Functioning as both a museum and a library, the Kyoto International Manga Museum is any Manga fan's paradise. With an enormous collection of around 300,000 items (as of 2016), ranging from the oldest items of caricature woodblock prints from the Edo period(18th century) right up until the most recent and popular manga publications including items from abroad also, Manga has a rich history. There are permanent and termly special exhibits, shops, a cafe and huge stacks of manga that hold over 50,000 volumes as a "manga wall" where visitors can freely take down and read any manga they like. There are plenty of rooms, benches and seats available to sit down and read the manga you pick up. If the weather is good, visitors often use the large lawn in front of the building to spread out and read at full leisure!
