The Kyushu National Museum is a famous tourist spot located in the hilly area behind Dazaifu Tenman-gu Shrine. This museum attempts to capture the the origins of Japanese culture from the perspective of Asian history, and in doing so exhibits the formation of Japanese culture from the paleolithic era until the late Tokugawa period using displays that show the deep connection between Kyushu and the rest of Asia. Many visitors are surprised by the gentle curve of the museum's exterior. Trees are reflected on the glass-covered walls, as if the museum coexists with the surrounding forest. Inside the building, a lot of important cultural properties are on display, and depending on the time period, a number of special displays also take place. The hands-on display ""Ajippo"" in particular is a popular hands-on exhibit, so make sure not to miss it. Inside the bustling appearance of an Asian market, plenty of fun toys and traditional folk crafts can be found. Not only kids, but adults too can return to their childhoods for a while and enjoy their time here.

Another place to see is the walkway between the Kyushu National Museum and Dazaifu Tenman-gu Shrine. The walls of the trail are decorated with red, pink, and blue lights, and the colors together become a bit like a rainbow, leading it to be called the Rainbow Tunnel. The end of the walkway leads to the main sanctuary of Dazaifu Tenman-gu Shrine. This path connects a modern museum and a shrine that is over 400 years old, making for an exciting experience as if slipping through time. If time allows, don't miss the opportunity to walk through the Rainbow Tunnel after enjoying the Kyushu National Museum and also sightsee around the Dazaifu Tenman-gu Shrine.
