Nikko Toshogu Shrine is a famous Shrine located in the Nikko City of Tochigi Prefecture, which can be identified as the northern part of Japan’s Kanto Area (Eastern Japan). The Holy Shrine was dedicated to worship the famous Shogun (Royal General) Tokugawa Ieyasu. He helped unite the country and was the first Shogun of the Edo period (1600-1867). Also, Tosho-gu is recognized as a “headquarter” among all the Tosho-gu Shrines spreaded throughout Japan, and to distinguish it from other Tosho-gu, the Shrine is mostly called “Nikko Tosho-gu Shrine”.
