Ogawarako Lake in Tohoku-machi is the biggest lake in Aomori Prefecture. Eels, Japanese smelts, and icefishes live in the lake, and fishing here is a popular pastime. In winter, the surface of the lake freezes, resulting in a sheet of ice about 30 centimeters thick and making it an especially popular spot for fishing smelts. In summer, visitors can enjoy a variety of leisure activities such as swimming and windsurfing, and on the lake shore there are campground facilities available as well.
