大岩山 日石寺
大岩山日石寺は、西暦725年に僧侶が大岩川の巨岩に不動明王の姿を彫ったのが始まりとされる由緒ある場所です。以来、修行僧や参拝者の心の拠り所となっています。寺院には大きな滝があり、周囲の火山凝灰岩に彫られた人物像も見られます。年に一度、旧暦の大寒（だいかん）の日に、六つの滝の下で冬の修行の儀式が行われます。参加者は、欲望や情念を洗い流し、心と体を清められると言われています。白衣を300円でレンタルするだけで、誰でも気軽に楽しむことができます。また、露天風呂もいくつかあり、神事の後にはリラックスして体を温めることができます。

There is a short pilgrimage walking route.
I visited 88 stone statues of Buddha.
It is a miniature for the 88 temple pilgrimage in Shikoku island.
The temple monk collected sand from all 88 temples in Shikoku island, and buried the sand under the stone Buddha statues which correspond to respective temples.
So, it has the same spiritual effect as visiting temples in Shikoku island.
It usually takes about an hour.
