Things to know

Sarutahiko Jinja Shrine is a historical Shinto shrine in Ise. It is devoted to the deity Sarutahiko Okami that is mentioned in Japan's oldest chronicles and said to have guided the country on the right path in ancient history. Today people pray to the deity to ward off evil and receive direction for their own lives. The temple is also famous for the traditional rice planting festival that takes place on May 5th every year. The shrine is connected to Sarume Jinja Shrine, where people pray for harmony and marriage. Sarume has its own annual festival held on August 17th and 18th.
