Shigakogen Highland Ski Area
Shigakogen Highland Ski Area boasts the most extensive collection of skiing courses in Japan, with 18 different ski resorts of a variety of sizes. The area expands annually, and the services offered continue to develop; there are currently shuttle buses and free lifts that connect all of the resorts.
Each resort in the area has its own charm; Yakebitaiyama Ski Resort holds an abundance of events and has unique courses that will satisfy even the most advanced skiers; Ichinose Ski Resort is a bustling area with plenty of facilities to entertain its many guests, including slopes just for kids; at Tannenomori Okojo Ski Resort, you can enjoy a quiet environment surrounded by woods. With so many different areas in close range, this is the perfect place to give resort hopping a try. Some of the resorts also have night skiing, so you'll be able to enjoy an entire day on the slopes.
In an area big enough to have 18 different ski resorts, there is, of course, plenty of gourmet cuisine, including local foods. One of the famed local delicacies of the Shinshu area is galette. Here, it is made with buckwheat flour and is usually eaten with a variety of different ingredients, such as cheese, tomatoes, and dry-cured ham.
During a normal year, the ski season lasts from mid-November to early May.
