Before becoming a popular tourist spot, Tokorozawa Aviation Park used to be Japan’s first airfield - “Tokorozawa Air Station”. Since then, many changes have taken place in the park, including being assigned as a US military base until it was returned back to Japan in 1971. In 1978, Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park was opened to the general public, and one of the park’s main attractions is the “Aviation Museum”, where two actual airplanes are being displayed outside.
