Hakkoda Ropeway allows you to enjoy the surrounding scenery all year round. Spring and early summer bring new greeneries, fall brings the changing colors of the leaves (late September to early October), and winter brings frosted trees (February and March). From the ropeway, you can even see far-off Hokkaido. You can walk from Sanroku Station to the peak of Tamoyatsudake, which is 1,324 meters high, in about 10 minutes. The gondola lift has large windows, and it provides you with a all-around view of the surroundings.
The Sukayu Onsens have been in use for over 300 years. The wooden facilities communicate the essence of Japan. And, of course, there’s the Sukayu Onsen’s legendary all-cypress large bath, “Hiba Sennin Furo.” This name comes from the bath’s size (roughly one tennis court) being enough to accommodate 1,000 people (sennin = 1,000 people). Hiba Sennin Furo is a mixed-sex bath, so women can enter wearing the bathing robes available in the store.
3Jougakura Ohashi Bridge
The Jogakura Ohashi Bridge connects the Tsugaru and Nambu areas in Aomori Prefecture. Built in 1995, the 360m-long bridge crosses the Jogakura mountain stream. The height of the bridge makes it seem as though are you are hovering above the forests, giving you a spectacular open and panoramic view of the surrounding forests and mountains. This view is all the more scenic in fall when the autumnal foliage emerges. If you are traveling through Aomori by car, don't miss this great photography spot.
4Tsugaru Kokeshi Doll Museum
The Tsugaru Kokeshi Doll Museum displays various kinds of kokeshi, traditional Japanese dolls. With round heads and cylindrical bodies, Kokeshi dolls are shaped like humans and differ in design depending on the region in which they are created. The museum also provides new kokeshi designs.
The first floor is free of charge, and there you can see artisanal kokeshi production exhibitions, try to paint a kokeshi, and buy kokeshi merchandise. The second floor has an entrance fee, and there you can see a traditional kokeshi exhibition with over 4,000 kokeshi dolls. In the art collection section, there are kokeshi dolls modeled after people such as prime minister Shinzo Abe and the famous mountain climber Yuichiro Mirua.
