Takkoku no Iwaya Temple
A 1,200-year-old Buddhist temple, Takkoku no Iwaya Temple, is located in Iwate Prefecture. The temple, dedicated to the god of warriors, Bishamonten, is carved into the base of a hangover cliff. Historians’ estimations put its founding in the early Heian period (792-1185). The temple has burned down multiple times with the current building being reconstructed in 1961. 33 of the original 108 statues of Bishamonten remain today and visitors are welcomed by three beautiful torii gates. This sacred site is perfect for those who seek to learn more about Japanese history and Japan’s religions.スポット情報を見る
In the old days, Motsuji Temple was said to be as splendid as the Chusonji Temple, if not more beautiful. Though all temple buildings were destroyed multiple times by disaster, two parts of the temple have been well-preserved: they are respectively the “Pure Land Garden”, and the “Heian Era Site”. These two well-preserved areas are situated next to the temple’s big pond (Oizumi) with the pond being the central point of the temple. Today, both areas have been recognized to be Japan’s “National Special Heritage Site & National Special Scenic Spot.” This magnificent Pure Land Garden, with Oizumi in the center, is considered one of Japan’s best gardens.スポット情報を見る
Genbikei Gorge of Iwate prefecture is a scenic rocky gorge. Travelers should note that Genbikei Gorge in Iwate is a different location from Geibikei Gorge, also in Iwate, which has boat trips. Around 2 kilometers long from one end of the walk to the other, Genbikei Gorge will certainly provide visitors with an entertaining trip through nature. However, it becomes especially distinct and enjoyable due to its "flying dango". Near the begining of the gorge's path, you will see a rope and basket. By placing 400 JPY in the basket and ringing the nearby gong, a local treat, dango (sticky rice balls covered in sauce), will be "flown" to you via the rope basket. A fun way to order food and a great way to grab a snack while on a hike, Genbikei Gorge is fun for the whole family.スポット情報を見る
