A perfect tour for adults to enjoy natural and delicious wine or relax amongst the spectacular nature in the rice terraces of Kunugidairanotanada Terraced Paddy Field and Yamadera Temple (Hojuzan Risshakuji Temple). This is a place where you can purify the mind. Taste the local wines and try to choose a favorite. Some of the local wines have been around for 40 present in Asahimachi Wine Castle.

Yamadera Temple (Hojuzan Risshakuji Temple)
Yamadera Temple (Hojuzan Risshakuji Temple) is a temple of the Tendai Buddhist sect. The main temple building is a National Heritage site, and the beechwood building is said to be the oldest in Japan. To get up the mountain there are 1,015 stone steps, and it is said that with each step you take up this path, your worldly desires fade further away. This temple also featured in the travel journal of the famous Edo-period (1600-1867) poet Basho.Show spot information
Asahimachi Wine Castle
Asahimachi Wine is a long-established and historical winery rooted in the cultural climate of Yamagata since 1944. They use good quality grapes and the newest brewing technologies and brew using only domestic grapes such as local ones from Yamagata. It is rare in Japan, it is a big characteristics that there is the company’s wide grape vineyard in front of the building where you can enjoy flowers and greenery. Watching the bottling process, you can enjoy a sample of more than 20 kinds of wine and brandy and create an original label with your favorite picture.Show spot information
Kunugidairanotanada Terraced Paddy Field
Kunugidairanotanada Terraced Paddy Field is a relatively new rice terrace which was carved out as a rice field in 1946. The beautiful scenery with more than 200 rice fields lining up was chosen as one of Japan’s ‘Top 100 Rice Terraces’. It is familiar to local residents with the name “the fan shaped rice field which the god dropped.” You can see the entire harmonious scenery of Tanada with surrounding mountains and a village from Ipponmatsu park which has a Himesayuri (pink lily) garden. It is characteristic of Tanada in the Tohoku area to hang cultivated rice plants on short poles and the bundle of rice plants hang on the “Inekui,” which is a short pole to be dried in the fall and has become a famous seasonal sight.Show spot information
