Itsukushima Jinja Shrine
Itsukushima Shrine, a shrine in Miyajima, is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its bold and creative structure that takes the sea as its setting, and characteristic 9th-11th century architecture, this is one of Japan's greatest shrines. When the tide comes in, one can admire the mysterious architectural beauty as the Shrine appears to float in the sea. The main shrine building (the structure where the Shinto Shrine is celebrated) which has been painted in a vivid scarlet color, is both pretty and distinctive. Also, the large Torii (A Traditional Japanese Shrine Gate) floating on the sea is a famous feature.スポット情報を見る
Leading up to the highest peak of Miyajima, the Miyajima Ropeway will give travelers a uniquely serene view as they begin the ascent of Mt. Misen, which sits 535 meters above sea level. While you are moving up the gondola, you’ll have an unparalleled view of the Seto Inland Sea and its many beautiful islets. Travelers who make it all the way to the Kiezu-no-Reikando Hall will have an opportunity to see the Kiezu-no-hi “The Eternal Flame”, which has been kept alight for 1200 years. Overlooking Misen Primeval Forest, which has been designated as a World Cultural Heritage site since 1996, there is no end to the wonderment nature lovers will feel when visiting Miyajima by ropeway. Anyone looking to be awed by the sheer beauty of Japan will find something in Miyajima.スポット情報を見る
Standing at over 1640 ft (500) meters above sea level, Mt. Misen is the highest peak on Miyajima. With beautiful scenic views and lush forest, the flora of Mt. Misen would be enough to satisfy any nature enthusiast. But a much rarer sight can be seen by those who decide to take the mountain paths up. Deer can occasionally be seen wandering the mountain and, as a much rarer sight, a small number of wild monkeys also inhabit the forest. For those who wanted to see what the mountain had to offer without climbing up the mountain in its entirety, there is a network of ropeways that can help travelers in ascending the mountain. And for those who have the tenacity to make it all of the ways to the summit, they will be rewarded a stunning view over the mountain’s lush forest and of the Seto Inland Sea. If you are interested in Buddhist temples, it is also worth making a stop at Daishoin Temple on your way up.スポット情報を見る
