Did you know that there are a variety of different types of cherry blossoms? A few of these include the Yoshino cherry, the Oshima cherry, the Sato cherry, and the Kawazu cherry. The blooming period and petal shape for each type of tree is unique. Tokyo may have an urban image, but Yoyogi Koen Park has a vast lawn and an abundance of plants, making it a popular place for people to come see cherry blossoms in spring. After enjoying Yoyogi Koen park, head to Shibuya to experience Tokyo's pop culture. Shibuya Scramble Crossing is a sight not to miss, where 2,500 people cross at any one time. Just as impressive as Yoyogi Koen Park, at Meiji Jingu Shrine visitors can enjoy viewing Yoshino, shidare-zakura (weeping cherry), and yae cherry trees. The sight can be enjoyed even into the evening: after night falls, the cherry blossoms are illuminated. At Meiji Jingu Shrine, you'll be able to spend a relaxing time with the cherry blossoms, enough even to forget that it's located in the middle of a bustling city.

  • Shibuya Crossing

Shibuya Crossing is Japan’s largest and most famous scramble crossing. At busy times, about 3,000 people are said to cross the intersection during one green light! Scenes of crowds of people all starting to walk at the same time when the lights change are often presented as a spectacle symbolic of the megalopolis of Tokyo, just because of the sheer numbers of pedestrians. This is so much so that Shibuya Crossing is also included in itineraries of sightseeing tours for international visitors to Japan. It is a perennially popular photo and video shoot location and is close to the Hachiko exit of JR Shibuya station.
