Shikisai no Oka is a spectacular flower garden that rolls along the hills of Biei in Hokkaido. With a vast array of beautiful and colorful flowers from April till October, the neatly organized carpets of color feature tulips, lavender, sunflowers dahlia flowers among many more. Due to the hills that these flowers reside on, being the nicely sloping hills that they are, you can get panoramic views of the flowers from different points, making for great views of a sea of color. Shikisai no Oka not only pleases the eyes, but the nose too. Enjoy the fragrance of the flowers as you elegantly walk it's paths. Shirogane Blue Pond is a mysterious pond whose water appears to be tinted blue. It is a famous viewing spot in the Furano and Biei area. It is said that when the ground water from the Shirahige Waterfall in the Shirogane hot spring area, which includes aluminum particles, mixes with the water in the Biei River it creates blue light reflections. The contrast between the lush greens of the trees near the river side and the old pine trees reflected in the water create a mystical charm.

A spectacular display of scenery can be seen at Shirahigenotaki Falls in Biei. This waterfall is particularly unique as it flows from an underground river. Not only that, in winter the falls are surrounded by fresh snow, frost-covered trees, and icicles, only adding to the beauty of the ravine below. From November through April there are seasonal illuminations, which is not something to miss, even in the cold. After enjoying some time at the waterfall, head to Biei Shirogane Onsen, equipped with open-air baths which allow visitors to enjoy the winter landscape while they relax.
