Mitokusan Sanbutsuji Temple is located on Mt. Mitokusan, which has an elevation of about 900 meters. In this video, you can experience the route from the foot of the mountain all the way up to National Treasure Nageiredo Hall, including the steep mountain path, traditional sandals used for climbing mountains, and the hiwatari fire-walking ritual where people walk across burning logs barefoot.
Mt. Mitokusan is known as a place to purify the mind and body through worship and soothe the mind and body through hot-spring baths. This story, entitled "A Site for Purifying the Six Roots of Perception and Healing the Six Senses," is recognized as a Japan Heritage Site by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
