Yonago is a town facing the Sea of Japan, popular for its abundance of seafood. There is also a dye shop that’s been in business for over 300 years, producing big flags to decorate fishing boats. The shop produces dye products created by the traditional technique of sketching the pattern over the fabric, then squeezing the glue paste from the piping bag along the sketched pattern. Handwritten motifs can’t be replicated by a machine.
