Things to know
The Yachi Donga Festival is held annually over the course of three days at the Yachi Hachimangu Shrine in Yamagata Prefecture. The festival is known for its performances of bugaku, or traditional court music and dance. The particular kind of bugaku that is performed at the festival is a variation of the Osaka shitennoji tradition and has a history of over 1,100 years; it has also been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the Japanese government. The celebrations also include a parade with festival floats, performers, and mikoshi portable shrines. |
