Dangyo no Taki Waterfalls

The Dangyo no Taki Waterfalls flow from the Nagugawa River on Dogojima Island, one of the Oki Shoto Islands of Shimane Prefecture. The greater of the two waterfalls boasts a height of 50 meters, while the smaller is 40 meters tall; between the two lies the Dangyo Jinja Shrine. One particular unique feature of this waterfall is that visitors can actually walk around the side of the shrine and behind the larger waterfall, bathing in the falls' negative ions. The water of the falls has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Natural Water Sources, and it has been said that drinking it will bring good luck in romance and work.

*There have been reports as to the possibility of falling rocks around the Dangyo Jinja Shrine, so the access to the shrine and area behind the falls is currently restricted (as of July 11, 2018).
