EGAO Kenko Stadium was opened in March of 1998, and it is mainly used as a venue for soccer games. The stadium can seat up to 32,000 people, and it is the home field for the J-League (Japan's professional soccer league) team Roasso Kumamoto.
It was chosen as one of the venues for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, and in addition to it being a hub for sports fanatics, it is also known as one of Kumamoto's popular tourist attractions. Access from the city center is fairly easy, and visitors often stop by other sightseeing spots such as Kumamoto-jo Castle and Suizen-ji Joju-en, a beautiful Japanese teien garden, on their way to or from the stadium.
