Goshikinuma Lakes
Beautiful Scenery
Free Admission
Goshikinuma Lakes (a more literal translation, is five colored marshes), are a series of colorful lakes in Fukushima prefecture. Having existed as they are now for a century, it was the volcanic debris raining down from the nearby Mt. Bandai settling in their pond's mud which earned them their namesake. From either the allophane in the water's muddy bottom or iron oxide, the lakes can adopt several hues. If you were so inclined, there are boat rentals you can do to prolong your time out on the scenic lakes. A great destination for anyone who enjoys the beauty in nature.
