Kamaishi Daikannon

Beautiful Scenery Art & Architecture
Family-friendly

Built in 1970, looking upon the Kamaishi Bay in Iwate Prefecture, the Kamaishi Daikannon Statue is 48.5 m tall. Visitors have the opportunity to climb their way up the statue to an observation point which sits 120m above sea level. The observatory provides a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding coastline. In addition, visitors can make their way to the enshrinement of the 33 bodies of Kannon and shops next to the Buddha statue. The white structures present quite a contrast to the blue water of the bay and will provide visitors with scenic view in addition to a new sense of appreciation for Japan’s religious traditions.
