Kibitsu Jinja Shrine is the oldest and largest shrine in the Okayama Prefecture. It is said that a brave young man had vanquished Ura, a fierce demon away from the village people, and that this is basis for the well-known Japanese children’s tale, Momotaro. In the Kibitsu Shrine grounds, there is an elegant hydrangea flower garden where approximately 1,500 hydrangea have been planted. The best time to see these flowers is from June to July, when the garden is busy with the many tourist who come to view these lovely beauties.
