Mt. Mayasan

Beautiful Scenery Insta-worthy Outdoor Activities

Mt. Mayasan is one of the mountains in the Mount Rokko range, a symbol of Kobe, and a popular day-trip spot among locals. Kikuseidai, a place near the top of the mountain, is particularly popular, offering a sprawling view of the Kobe cityscape. In fact, the nightscape that can be seen from here is known as one of the Three Major Night Views of Japan, also called a “Ten Million Dollar Night View.” Kikuseidai can be accessed by car or by taking the cable car and ropeway called the Maya Viewline. Though it is famous as a nightscape, the scenery during the day is equally beautiful. Also, events such as yoga and markets are held regularly at the observation space at Kikuseidai, with participation open to the general public.
With an elevation of 702 meters, this is a mountain that's easy to climb even for beginners, so we recommend hiking up and enjoying the nature, then using the Maya Viewline on the way back down. The view from Kikuseidai is especially exceptional after making the climb yourself. Please note, however, that in winter there will be spots with accumulated snow and ice.
