Mt. Yoshino

Beautiful Scenery
Free Admission

One of Japan's Unesco World Heritage Sites, Mt. Yoshino of Nara prefecture is Japan's most famous cherry blossom viewing location. It is said that the first cherry blossoms were planted on the mountain in the 7th Century, while there are roughly 30,000 cherry trees standing on the mountain currently. With a gradual northward mountain slope, there is plenty of time to enjoy the cherry blossoms when they are in season while taking a long walk up the mountain. When visiting the mountain, there should be plenty of time to visit Yoshino town proper, which is quite accommodating to travelers. For those intent on visiting Mt. Yoshino for cherry blossom season, be warned that the timing and duration of the cherry blossom's blooming can change significantly on a year by year basis depending on local weather conditions, and that there will likely be crowds during cherry blossom season.
