Things to know

There are very few people that know Tokyo has its own awesome biodiversity and majestic natural beauty that rivals the Galapagos Islands. That is because what administratively belongs to Tokyo actually includes a number of islands. The tropical Ogasawara Islands on which the Ogi Ike Cove can be found are actually 24 hours away from Tokyo by boat. The islands host some of the absolute best spots in Japan and are registered as UNESCO World Heritage. There is a rare sight to behold full of exotic plants and animals.
The Ogi Ike Cove is located on Minamijima Island which is uninhabited and can only be accessed by small boats from one of the larger islands, and only when the waves are not too high. The cove was formed through the erosion of limestone rocks and is absolutely beautiful. It is possible to swim or snorkel here, but visitors are only allowed to stay for 2 hours in order to preserve the natural environment.
