Oita Stadium was built for the 2002 FIFA World Cup and is known for its movable openings. The nickname for the stadium at its opening was 'Big Eye', based on how from the sky the stadium looks like an eye. Oita is a region famous for its hot springs. Beppu, an area only 10 minutes by train from Oita Station, is Japan's largest hot spring resort so be sure to enjoy overnight stays or day trips to the hot springs.
