Free Admission

The Sennindo Shrine is a historical shrine located in the forest on the Mogami riverbank in Yamagata Prefecture. Sennindo is featured in Japanese novels and children's books. It has a more than 800-year history and is associated with the warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune and the poet Matsuo Basho who are both said to have visited here. It is also famous for coffee brewed with fresh spring water. The deities worshipped here are said to bring success to anyone involved in agriculture as well as to support matchmaking. The shrine is only accessible by boat, so if you are interested in visiting this spiritual place and enjoy a cup of coffee, you should check out the local river cruises, such as the Yoshitsune Kanko Boat Tours.
