Shirone Kite Museum is one of the biggest kite museums in the world with not only Japanese kites but rare kites from all over the world being displayed, not to mention the traditional giant Shirone kite! Inside the museum, you can find out about the history of the giant kite battle in its exhibition corner, and check out how these battles took place with 3D imagery videos. The video is 10 minutes long and allows you to delve into the 3D world of giant kite battles and you’ll actually feel like you’re present at a festival! There is even a kite making workshop where you can learn how to make your own kite and the workshop even has its own kite flying lab for you to test it in, making for quite the unique and fun experience.

Once you enter the museum the first thing you’ll see is the gigantic kite displayed in the open space there. A massive 43.7 square meters in size, this enormous kite is an overwhelming presence! In the 1st floor, you can find kites from all over Japan being displayed. You can see the differences with each area in Japan having its own unique characteristics in terms of design, patterns, and shape. Then, on the 2nd floor, you can find a plethora of kites being displayed from all over the world. Check out the comparisons between all the different kites and you might have a new discovery waiting to be found!
