Projecting into the Pacific Ocean at the southernmost peak of the Nichinan-kaigan Coast, Cape Toi can be found. Here,a hardly touched pristine natural environment has been well preserved. Cape Toi is one of the few places in Japan where you can observe the rare horse breed Misaki-uma living here. Descendants of army horses during the Edo period, they were left grazing and eventually became wild.

Aside from enjoying a fabulous view of the Pacific by climbing to the top of the Toi-Misaki Lighthouse, you can also go visit the visitor center. Surrounded by thousands of cycad trees, at the end of the cape you can find the Misaki Shrine which is celebrated as the ‘talisman of the god’ that is said to keep seamen out of danger while at sea.
