Route

  1. 1
    Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

Arashiyama is a pleasant, touristy district in the western outskirts of Kyoto. The area has been a popular destination since the Heian Period (794-1185), when nobles would enjoy its natural setting. Arashiyama is particularly popular during the cherry blossom and fall color seasons. The Bamboo paths that cut through the bamboo groves make for a nice walk. The groves are particularly attractive when there is a light wind and the tall bamboo stalks sway gently back and forth. The bamboo has been used to manufacture various products, such as baskets, cups, boxes and mats at local workshops for centuries.

  2. 2
    Arashiyama local snacks and sweets

Arashiyama offers a variety of local snacks and sweets. Matcha ice cream, mochi, delicious local bakery bread, taiyaki, etc...
I hope you'll try a variety to suit your mood!

  3. 3
    Bamboo workshop ”Nagaoka Meichiku”

Nagaoka Meichiku is located in Kameoka, Kyoto. It is an artisan studio specializing in bamboo products, and particularly in the construction of bamboo fences, long recognized as integral components of the traditional Japanese townscape. Their creations are fashioned individually and by hand, espousing the cultural “wabi-sabi” aesthetic ever out of reach for factory-produced goods. At this workshop, visitors can experience making bamboo baskets or chopsticks. Make your own one-of-a-kind bamboo item!

  4. 4
    Kyoto Restaurant Matsusho (Optional)

This is a proposal. Since you have come all the way to Kameoka, how about a Kameoka lunch using ingredients grown in Kameoka? "Kyoto cuisine that cannot be found anywhere else in Kyoto City." The chef uses ingredients from Kameoka, which is rich in nature, and strives to provide customers with highly cultured cuisine by transforming the seasonal ingredients with free ideas and outstanding techniques. With a comfortable space and delicious food, you are sure to have a good time and enjoy good conversation.
