Rurikoji Temple is a Buddhist temple best known for its five-storied pagoda. Having been completed in 1442, it is listed as a National Treasure today. Rurikoji Temple is often thought to feature one of Japan’s three greatest pagodas, next to the similarly impressive pagodas in Nara and Kyoto respectively. Each roof is a little smaller than the one below, giving the whole pagoda a sleek, slender appearance. Every evening, the soaring tower is lit up from sunset to 10:00 p.m, making this one of the best times to visit.
