Yonago Waterbirds Sanctuary
Yonago Waterbirds Sanctuary is an internationally-famous waterfowl habitat located in Daisen-Oki National Park, and it is especially popular as a birdwatching spot. In particular, over 75,000 geese and ducks of various breeds fly through the park each year, making it one of the largest migratory bird stopovers in the country. Additionally, a number of varieties of precious plants and animals inhabit the area, including endangered aquatic plants such as sago pondweed and aquatic insects such as giant water bugs. At the nature center within the sanctuary, visitors can observe the birds using telescopes and binoculars. Towering overhead is the powerful figure of Mt. Daisen, and just in front lies Tsubasaike Pond. Countless waterfowl land to rest here, and the contrast between the pond and the mountain is a sight not to miss. Nature observation tours and workshops are also offered on site, making it an excellent place for children to learn about the outdoors.
