Hakkoda Ropeway allows you to enjoy the surrounding scenery all year round. Spring and early summer bring new greeneries, fall brings the changing colors of the leaves (late September to early October), and winter brings frosted trees (February and March). From the ropeway, you can even see far-off Hokkaido. You can walk from Sanroku Station to the peak of Tamoyatsudake, which is 1,324 meters high, in about 10 minutes. The gondola lift has large windows, and it provides you with a all-around view of the surroundings.
In summer, you can take leisurely walks around the wetlands on a nature trail and enjoy viewing the high moor and mountain greenery. You can also take a trip farther out toward Otake and Sukayu to visit a popular hiking trail. You can go skiing in winter, which usually lasts from late November to mid-May in Hakkoda, but in some places the slopes stay open as late as August. In addition, mid-August is when the “night sky ropeway,” a beautiful view of the mountain’s silhouette, can be seen. In mid to late September, you can go stargazing and enjoy the scenery surrounding the Tsugaru plains and Mutsu bay on the “starry night ropeway.”
