Aomori

Aomori Prefecture is the northernmost region of Japan’s main island, Honshu. It is surrounded by the ocean on three sides and famous for its local dishes which make use of fresh seafood and vegetables. In addition, Aomori is the main producer of fresh apples, garlic and many other vegetables in Japan. Traditional festivals and events that celebrate the changing seasons are held throughout the year, including a cherry blossom festival at Hirosaki Castle in spring and the Nebuta Festival in summer. Aomori is home to a rich variety of tourist spots, including the world natural heritage site Shirakami Sanchi, the Seikan Tunnel that connects Aomori and Hokkaido under the seabed and some of the largest excavation sites of ancient Jomon culture.
