Located just in front of Kichijoji Station and with easy access from both Shinjuku and Shibuya is Harmonica Yokocho, a shopping district where the atmosphere from the Showa period has been preserved. About 100 shops are lined up in a narrow alley creating a sight like that of the mouthpiece of a harmonica, which is how it came to be called Harmonica Yokocho (yokocho = alley). During the day, patrons can walk around and try different foods or visit cafes, and at night the area bustles with people enjoying bar hopping. By exploring the maze-like alleyways, visitors will have the chance to discover the nostalgic side of Kichijoji.
