Kiyotsukyo Gorge

Beautiful Scenery Outdoor Activities
Family-friendly

Kiyotsu Gorge or Kiyotsukyo is a volcanic gorge in Niigata Prefecture that is known for its stunning scenery. The highlights of this gorge include its clear, blue water, the stone formations on the cliffs that were created when the magma from a volcanic eruption cooled down, and the panoramic views that you can enjoy. In order to make the gorge accessible, a tunnel was built in 1996. It includes displays and view points of the gorge. The 750m tunnel is easy to walk because there are no ups and downs, and you are rewarded with a spectacular view at the end. The sight from the viewing platform at the end of the tunnel is truly insta-worthy. Please note that the tunnel is closed off in winter.
