The Yoshikien Garden in Nara is mentioned in the Man’yoshu, the oldest anthology of waka poems existing in Japan. In addition to an elegant main building and a detached teahouse, there are gardens in the grounds consisting of a pond garden, a moss garden, and a camellia garden. The view of Mt. Wakakusa and colored green early in summer are beautiful and a must-see. Plans are in progress to make the surroundings a lodging facility by 2020.
