Hinomisaki Shrine is about 15 minutes away by car from Izumo Taisha Shrine, a shrine where gods from all over the country are believed to gather together in October. Hinomisaki Shrine has a characteristic vermilion shrine pavilion. The historic building resembles the Momoyama period with its precise Gongen-zukuri style architecture. It is designated as an important national treasure by the government. The shrine is located in Daisen-Oki National Park where it is surrounded by both the beautiful Sea of Japan and abundant greenery of the pine forest.
On the top of the stairs of the shrine, there is Kaminomiya main shrine on a small platform. About 1,000 years ago, Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture was enshrined as the “shrine that protects Japan during the day” while Hinomisaki Shrine was enshrined as the “shrine that protects Japan during the night” by the Emperor Murakami. The shrine is said to bring good fortunes for business prosperity, fire prevention, wealth, wishes, safe delivery, huge harvest, and good relationships.
