Iwakiyama Jinja Shrine is located at the base of Mt. Iwakiyama in Hirosaki City. The shrine has actually been burnt down several times, but its main building was built during the feudal period using Japanese cypress, making it quite durable. It has also been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and it is well known for its natural beauty and magnificent sculptures. The path that stretches from the torii gates to the main shrine is surrounded by cedar trees, creating a mysterious atmosphere. Mt. Iwakiyama is also called the Fuji of Tsugaru, and it is beloved by the people who live in the region. On the first day of the eight month of the lunar calendar, groups making pilgrimages up the mountain can be seen.
