Ishikawa

The coastal Ishikawa prefecture has enjoyed far more national and international attention since it has become integrated by bullet train. This has given it the opportunity to display its rich, famous attractions like the stunning Kenrokuen Garden in Kanazawa. A lesser known destination in Ishikawa are the Shiroyone Senmaida, or the 1000 rice paddies of Shiroyone. Over the stunning coastline of the Noto Peninsula, the very local Shiroyone Senmaida are a long field of traditional rice padies on a steep slope leading down to the sea. Given the inability to use farming equipment on an inclined slope, the paddies are still harvested by hand. Watch how rice would've historically been farmed, or even volenteer to help out and get a first hand experience.
